New book explores Torquay's social history

‘Torquay: A Social History’ is a new book by local historian Dr Kevin Dixon.

Described as a ‘10,000 year journey’, it explores the lives of ‘locals and visitors, of smugglers and pirates, of suffragettes, occultists, radicals and rioters’.

The author is not only well known as a historian. Kevin is involved in numerous local community endeavours, gives regular talks, and is a great champion for culture and heritage in Torbay. He is Chair of Healthwatch Torbay and a member of the advisory board of Torbay Culture.

The book (179 pages, £10) is available from Artizan Gallery, Lucius Street, Torquay TQ2 5UW. Open: Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm.
