Heritage Gardens and Albert E Germain

Heritage Gardens and Albert E Germain

A new short film celebrates some of Torbay's historic gardens. Ali Marshall, Head Gardener at Torre Abbey, takes viewers on a tour of her favourite places - including Cockington, Oldway, Royal Terrace Gardens, Tessier Gardens - as well as Torre Abbey.

Heritage Gardens on the English Riviera uses diary entries and observations from Albert E Germain, the Edwardian fruit tree specialist, and shares his insights into the plants and trees that make the area distinctive and so attractive to visitors and residents. Several of the gardens featured are on the national Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.

Created by the award winning team behind the Agatha Swims film, Heritage Gardens on the English Riviera was completed as part of Torbay Culture's 2021 Culture Recovery Fund work, encouraging people to learn more about Torbay's heritage and explore our places.
